"Steam Pump Wreckage"

One very hot summer morning, as we painted amid the fallen tin roofs, and debris,
a rhythmic sizzling sound made me think that sprinklers were coming on. It was a young
rattlesnake. I carefully lifted it away from our area on a very long eucalyptus branch,
with a few twigs like a fork tine, and carried it far away.
The snake actually stayed draped over the branch.
